Manchin Discusses Importance of Appalachian Storage Hub in Energy and Natural Resources Committee

ICYMI: MANCHIN DISCUSSES IMPORTANCE OF APPALACHIAN STORAGE HUB IN ENERGY AND NATURAL RESOURCES COMMITTEE

Washington, D.C. – This week, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) and leaders of the U.S. energy sector discussed the prospects for a natural gas liquids storage hub in the Appalachian Region during a hearing to examine the status and outlook for U.S. and Northern American energy and resource security before the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources.  Mark Mills of the Manhattan Institute confirmed the importance of storage to furthering our nation’s energy security and fully capitalizing on economic opportunities before us.

Senator Manchin also spoke at length on the security and economic benefits of West Virginia moving forward with the storage hub. Senator Manchin said, “We need to take advantage of the wet gas in the Ohio River Valley and start investing in the Appalachian Storage Hub. This hub would give us access to critical energy products that are now only excavated in the Southwest and give us not only economic opportunities but national security opportunities too. West Virginia is strategically located away from any major body of water and protected by the mountains. Our state is happy to continue to provide the power that keeps the East Coast lit up.”
