Manchin Encourages West Virginians To Get Covered During ACA Open Enrollment Period

Washington, D.C. –U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) is encouraging West Virginians to find a health insurance plan that works for them before the Affordable Care Act Open Enrollment Period ends on December 15, 2018. West Virginians can register for health insurance coverage by visiting www.healthcare.gov/get-coverage/ or call 1-800-318-2596.

“While the ACA is not perfect, the number of uninsured West Virginians has decreased by 56% as a result of the Affordable Care Act and the Medicaid expansion. Every West Virginian deserves access to quality and affordable healthcare. I encourage those without health insurance coverage to visit www.healthcare.gov during the Open Enrollment Period to find a plan that works for them and their families,” Senator Manchin said.

Open Enrollment Period is the yearly period when people can enroll in a health insurance plan. Open Enrollment for 2019 runs from November 1, 2018 to December 15, 2018.

Outside the Open Enrollment Period, West Virginians generally can enroll in a health insurance plan only if they qualify for a Special Enrollment Period. They’re eligible for a Special Enrollment Period if they have certain life events such as getting married, having a baby, or losing other health coverage.

Job-based plans may have different Open Enrollment Periods and West Virginians should check with their employer for more information regarding changes. West Virginians can apply and enroll in Medicaid or the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) any time of year.
