Manchin Hears From West Virginia Manufacturers Association Amid Coronavirus Outbreak
Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) participated in a call with the West Virginia Manufacturers Association to hear their concerns about the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.
“Our West Virginia manufacturers are vital to the state’s economy and employ a lot of qualified, talented West Virginians. Their work is essential, especially during the coronavirus outbreak which is why I have introduced two bills to require the President to use his full authority to quickly produce supplies through the Defense Production Act (DPA). Utilizing the DPA would allow manufacturers all over America and West Virginia to help produce the necessary medical supplies and equipment for those on the front lines. I am grateful to our manufacturers in West Virginia for their willingness to step up to the plate during this time and know that we will continue to work together to support our fellow West Virginians,” said Senator Manchin.
“Senator Manchin has always been a great friend and ally to West Virginia Manufacturers. He truly understands the essential services our manufacturers provide, especially during this time of uncertainty. We appreciate Senator Manchin providing leadership and guidance during these difficult times and for taking time today to answer our questions. We will continue to support our West Virginia family and are ready to help however we are needed,” said Rebecca McPhail, President of West Virginia Manufacturers Association.
Over the last week, Senator Manchin has participated in calls with the West Virginia American Federation of Teachers, the West Virginia Hospital Association, the West Virginia Medical Association, the West Virginia Primary Care Association, the West Virginia Nursing Association, the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce, and the West Virginia Directors for Senior and Community Services. In the coming days, he will continue to schedule opportunities to hear directly from West Virginians about how the ongoing pandemic is impacting their lives, businesses and communities.
Senator Manchin launched an information resources page where West Virginians can learn more about the coronavirus outbreak and how to protect themselves and their families. To learn more please click here.
