Manchin Highlights Need For VA Transparency, Accountability During VA Secretary Nomination Hearing
Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee (SVAC), highlighted the need for increased transparency and accountability across Veterans Affairs (VA) during the nomination hearing for VA Secretary nominee Dennis McDonough. Senator Manchin continues to push for transparency and accountability at the VA after the murders at the Clarksburg Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) and the sexual abuses at the Beckley VAMC.
“Let me tell you what we’ve faced in the past few years…Knowing that we have Veterans who were murdered in the Clarksburg Veterans hospital…We’ve had sexual abuses found in the Beckley VA hospital…There’s a breakdown there somewhere and we’re going to need someone like you (McDonough) who can dig into that to put the credibility back in the VA and the desire to provide the care our Veterans deserve…My grandmother used to say people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care, I know how much you (McDonough) care,” said Senator Manchin in part.
