Manchin Introduces Bipartisan Fiscal State Of The Nation Act
Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (I-WV) introduced the bipartisan Fiscal State of the Nation Act, which would provide lawmakers with the most current, nonpartisan data on the nation’s fiscal health so they can make informed, fiscally responsible and economically sound decisions. This commonsense legislation would require the Comptroller General of the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to appear before a joint session of Congress annually to report on the fiscal state of the federal government.
“Our national debt is absolutely staggering. It is nearly $35 trillion, about $103,000 per American, and it is growing at the largest rate we have ever seen in our country’s history,” said Senator Manchin. “I’m proud to introduce the Fiscal State of the Nation Act with my bipartisan colleagues to provide our lawmakers, and the Americans we represent, with all the facts possible regarding our country’s fiscal health. I will do everything I can to see this bill across the finish line.”
Senator Manchin was joined by Senators Mike Braun (R-IN), Jacky Rosen (D-NV), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Roger Marshall (R-KS), Pete Ricketts (R-NE) and Rick Scott (R-FL).
