Manchin Launches "Commonsense Connections" Week, A New Constituent Outreach Initiative
As the Senator is in the Middle East on a fact-finding mission, Manchin staff will visit more than 80 locations in West Virginia this week

Charleston, W.Va. – Representatives from the office of U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) today launched an unprecedented statewide tour that will reach West Virginians in every part of the state as the Senator is traveling on a fact-finding mission in the Middle East.
In a press conference today, State Director Kelley Goes introduced “Commonsense Connections Week,” a series of informal gatherings during which staff will be available to meet with West Virginians to discuss their commonsense ideas, priorities and concerns. More than 80 events have been scheduled just this week.

Senator Manchin is in the Middle East on a fact-finding mission and has visited with military commanders, diplomats, local leaders and West Virginia troops in countries including Afghanistan and Pakistan. Senator Manchin is overseas to see and learn more about the vital issues on the ground there, and to meet the brave men and women from West Virginia who are serving the nation.
“While I am on this important fact-finding trip abroad, where I will be listening to West Virginians who are serving, meeting with our commanders on the ground, and key local leaders, the important work of serving West Virginia continues,” Senator Manchin said.
“I am proud to announce the launch of ‘Commonsense Connections Week,’ where my hardworking staff will be crisscrossing every corner of our state to reach out to our veterans, seniors, small businesses, parents and all hardworking West Virginians to listen to your commonsense ideas, priorities and concerns.”
“Senator Manchin believes that West Virginians shouldn’t have to go to Washington to communicate with their Senator, and that is why we’re launching this never-before-seen effort,” added State Director Goes. “Our staff will blanket the state to make sure we are available to hear the concerns, priorities and commonsense ideas from West Virginians while the Senator is on his important fact-finding trip in the Middle East.”
Manchin began the year with a highly successful two-week “Call for Common Sense” tour, during which he visited 11 counties, drove more than 1,800 miles and talked to hundreds of West Virginias about their ideas, concerns and priorities. Following the success of the “Call for Common Sense” tour, Manchin launched “Coffee and Common Sense,” an ongoing series of conversations with constituents. Senator Manchin has already visited Follansbee, Beckley, Fayetteville, Lewisburg and White Sulphur Springs for “Coffee and Common Sense.”
