Manchin Overrides President's Veto to Allow 9/11 Families To Sue Saudi Arabia
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) today issued the following statement after voting to override the President’s veto of the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act, which would ensure that families of victims of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 have the right to pursue justice in United States federal courts against alleged supporters. This legislation passed the House and the Senate unanimously earlier this year.
“Families and survivors deserve a way to seek justice and closure against alleged supporters of the 9/11 terrorists," Senator Manchin said. “Families of the victims of 9/11 have been waiting far too long for their day in court and I am glad to vote in support of them again today. This legislation demonstrates that we stand with these victims and signals that we are serious about prosecuting terrorists and those who fund them.”
