Manchin: ‘Recent Storms are Just a Taste – Imagine if Breakdown Was Intentional’
With cyber attacks on critical infrastructure up 400 percent from 2010, Manchin supporting Cybersecurity Act of 2012
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) released the following statement today in support of the Cybersecurity Act of 2012. Senator Manchin voted to move forward with the bill this afternoon.
“In nearly every briefing about our national security, the issue of cybersecurity is on the front burner – and let me tell you, the recent devastating storms were just a taste of what could happen if our entire system goes down. Imagine if the breakdown was intentional,” Senator Manchin said. “We’ve seen cyber attacks on our critical infrastructure increase 400 percent since 2010, and it’s urgent that we address our cybersecurity needs now.
“While bipartisanship in Washington is rare, it’s encouraging to see both Democrats and Republicans come together in the spirit of cooperation to put forward this compromise measure. Both sides recognize that we have to put our country first and make our infrastructure as safe from terrorist attack as soon as possible.”
