MANCHIN SECURES VETERANS UPWARD BOUND PROGRAM FOR TWO WEST VIRGINIA COLLEGES
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) announced that Concord University and Davis & Elkins College will receive $263,938 and $375,319 respectively under the Department of Education’s Veterans Upward Bound Program.
“Our veterans have fulfilled a commitment to protect our nation and we have a responsibility to make sure that those who are willing to work hard receive a good education and have the necessary resources and training to achieve their educational goals and careers as civilians,” Senator Manchin said. “Continued funding of these programs will make sure that our veteran students at Concord University and Davis & Elkins College maintain access to important services such as tutoring and financial aid assistance, to make better informed decisions about applying for, attending and graduating from college. By providing greater access to college and support along the way, this funding will help more of West Virginia’s returning heroes complete their education and move forward with their careers.”
Earlier this month, Senator Manchin sent Department of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos letters supporting Concord University and Davis & Elkins College’s applications for this grant program. The Veterans Upward Bound Programs at both of these institutions assist veterans in developing the skills and motivation necessary for success in pursuit of their higher education goals.
