Manchin Speaks at Governors Energy Summit
Roanoke, WV – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) today spoke at the Governors Energy Summit at Stonewall Resort, highlighting the state’s leadership in the energy sector and his work as the Ranking Member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
“West Virginia is an energy powerhouse. We produce more energy than we consume, and power the economies and cities of the East Coast. Affordable and reliable energy from West Virginia coal and natural gas have helped to grow this great country, and maintaining that costeffective baseload power is foundational to continued U.S. prosperity and global leadership,” said Senator Manchin. “I am proud of the role that West Virginia and our hard workers have played in powering our country. And West Virginia will continue to have a role to play, even as our country undergoes an energy transformation. Because the fact of the matter is, we have got to use everything we’ve got – from coal, to natural gas and renewables – to ensure a reliable electric grid and to keep our economy humming. But we also need to be using all of these resources in the cleanest way possible.”
