Manchin Statement on Ashton Carter’s Nomination to Secretary of Defense

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) issued a statement to announce his support for Ashton Carter’s nomination to Secretary of Defense. 

“I intend to support Ashton Carter’s nomination to Secretary of Defense. Our country faces serious national security challenges and I believe Ashton will provide capable leadership of the Department of Defense in meeting these challenges. His record of public service has been excellent, and he enjoys credibility with Members of Congress. I expect he will face hard questions during the confirmation process about the military and security policies our government should pursue. I am confident that he will distinguish himself in this most important cabinet position, and I look forward to working with him.”
