Manchin Statement on Frank Buckles Funeral
Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) today released the following statement honoring Frank W. Buckles, the longest surviving U.S. veteran of World War I. Buckles was laid to rest today at Arlington National Cemetery in a ceremony with full military honors.
“America said goodbye to one of our nation’s true patriots today, and to the last member of a fine generation of Americans,” Senator Manchin said. “I am appreciative that both the President and Vice President paid their respects, and I thank the military and Department of Defense for an extraordinary and fitting ceremony. Most importantly, on behalf of West Virginians, I thank Frank Buckles for his service.”
