Manchin Statement on Memorial Day

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) today released the following statement in honor of Memorial Day.

“As Americans and as West Virginians, today we show our deepest gratitude and come together to show our lasting respects.  Memorial Day is an important day in our country to pay homage to our fallen soldiers and thank the men and women who have served, and continue to serve, this country with valor and distinction. It’s because of their commitment, bravery and valor that we remain a safe, strong and secure nation.

“Today, we should also recognize the families who have lost loved ones in defense of our country. I encourage all West Virginians to take a moment to thank spouses, parents, children and siblings wearing the Gold Star Pin. These pins symbolize the ultimate sacrifice and serve as a daily reminder to us all that the freedoms and liberties we enjoy come at a steep cost. We are eternally grateful to these families for the unimaginable sacrifice they have made and we must support them at whatever cost.

“So on behalf of the state of West Virginia and all Americans, I sincerely thank our veterans and service members, as well as their families, today and every day for their patriotism and sacrifice. From the bottom of my heart, I extend my deepest gratitude and respect to the men and women who gave their all to keep our nation the greatest on earth. May God bless you, the great state of West Virginia, and the United States of America.”
