Manchin Statement on Return Home of All West Va.’s National Guard Units
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) issued the following statement about the return of all of West Virginia’s National Guard units for the next few weeks. All of the state’s National Guard units are back in the country for the first time since September 11.
“I am so pleased that for the first time since September 11, all of West Virginia’s National Guard units are back home,” Senator Manchin said. “Even though they’ll only be home for few weeks before the next unit is deployed, I will fight to keep all of them here at home so we can work together on strengthening this great state and our great nation. As I’ve said so many times, I think it’s time to bring our troops home and rebuild America, not Afghanistan.
“And I want to say to each and every member of our Guard that I was so proud to be the Commander in Chief of the best National Guard in the entire country as Governor of West Virginia, and I am thankful for their service and the sacrifices they and their families have made to defend this nation. All our veterans have made incredible contributions to this great nation, and I will always fight to make sure that they get the benefits they have earned and deserve.”
