Manchin Statement on the 12th Anniversary of the Sago Mine Disaster
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) issued the following statement on the 12th anniversary of the Sago mine disaster.
“Twelve years ago, twelve brave miners tragically lost their lives at Sago. On that day, I grieved with the miners’ families and with all West Virginians. I think of those miners and the strength and sacrifices of their families each and every day, and my thoughts and prayers are with them and their loved ones on this sad anniversary. After Sago, we worked to improve mine safety by passing historic legislation and today we are reminded that, now more than ever, we must defend the mine safety improvements that have saved lives and protected our miners’ health and kept them out of harm’s way. The safety of our workers is and will always be my unrelenting priority and I remain absolutely and totally committed to making sure our miners come home safely after every shift.”
