Manchin Statement On The 3rd Anniversary Of The 2016 West Virginia Flood
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) released the following statement on the upcoming third anniversary of the flood which devastated communities throughout southern West Virginia in 2016.
“Three years ago, we lost 23 West Virginians because of terrible flooding across our state. The flooding was a tragedy for the families who lost loved ones and for the entire state. Our statewide community came together to support and care for one another during their time of need. We proved that as a state we are resilient and when we support each other, we can overcome anything. I am proud to represent such a strong state with amazing people who care for their communities and fellow West Virginians.
Over the past three years, I have worked with multiple agencies to secure funding for West Virginia, including more than $184 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and more than $256 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). As a member of the Appropriations Committee, I will continue to fight for West Virginia and its residents so that we can rebuild our state together,” said Senator Manchin.
