Manchin Statement on the Passing of Senator Dianne Feinstein

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) released the following statement on the passing of U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein.

“I always had the deepest admiration and respect for Senator Dianne Feinstein and I was proud to call her my colleague and friend. Often the only woman in the room, Senator Feinstein was a trailblazer for women across the country and broke barriers as the first woman to serve as mayor of San Francisco and was not only California’s longest-serving senator but also the longest-serving woman senator. Senator Feinstein always put our country first by working across the aisle to implement commonsense solutions for the American people, including championing the comprehensive CIA torture report following 9/11 and the preservation of cherished public lands such as Joshua Tree National Park and the Mojave National Preserve. Whether it was on the Senate floor or the Appropriations Committee room, I always found her to be passionate, intelligent, and incredibly tenacious. I am so thankful to Senator Feinstein for her years of public service and Gayle and I are praying for her family, friends, staff and the people of California as we all mourn the passing of this icon of American politics.”
