Manchin Supports Finland and Sweden's Acceptance into NATO
Washington, DC – This
evening, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) voted to support Finland and Sweden’s
acceptance into the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the expedited
ratification of accession protocols.
“As
Putin’s war in Ukraine endures, a strong NATO must be one of our highest
priorities. This evening I voted for the acceptance of Finland and Sweden into
NATO and I strongly support their critical inclusion. Finland and Sweden are
both economic and regional military powers, and their presence in NATO would be
valuable additions. It is our responsibility as a world power and democratic
leader to support and strengthen NATO, the most successful post-World War II
military partnership. I urge all NATO members to move swiftly on advancing
Finland and Sweden’s admissions.”
On
May 24th, 2022, Senator Manchin sent a bipartisan
letter
from 80 Senators urging President Biden to expedite the process to advance
Finland and Sweden’s acceptance into NATO.
