Manchin Supports Only Bipartisan Compromise Bill

Collins compromise keeps guns out of the hands of terrorists and protects American’s due process

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) voted in favor of the Terrorist Firearms Prevention Act of 2016, the only bipartisan commonsense legislation led by Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) that will prevent terrorists from obtaining weapons while protecting Americans’ right to due process.

“Today I voted in favor of Senator Collins’ compromise legislation that will prevent terrorists from doing harm to innocent Americans while also protecting due process rights for all Americans. This bipartisan legislation will make sure an individual that is too dangerous to fly on an airplane cannot make a legal firearm purchase, while also ensuring due process rights for American citizens.

“As a life-time hunter, sportsman, NRA member, and law-abiding gun owner, I will always fight to protect our Second Amendment and due process rights and against any government overreach and infringement, but I will also fight to prevent radical Islamic terrorists from obtaining weapons.”
