Manchin Votes To Disapprove Of Arms Sale To United Arab Emirates
Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, voted for two Joint Resolutions of Disapproval, SJ Res 77 and 78, which disapprove of the sale of F-35A Joint Strike Fighters, MQ-9B Reaper drones, munitions, and support infrastructure to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
“The sale of military arms to foreign powers should not be rushed and must include the involvement of Congress to ensure the agreement has been thoroughly vetted. This sale has been hasty, with almost no communication to Members regarding the details of the transaction. While I agree that we must support our allies in the Middle East and around the world, I cannot in good conscious support this arms sale without further examination and assurances that this is in the best interest of the American people and our allies.”
