Manchin Votes to End United States Involvement in Yemen

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) released the following statement on his vote for S.J.Res.54, a joint resolution directing the removal of United States Armed Forces from hostilities in the Republic of Yemen.

“Today I voted to end the United States support of the Saudi Arabian-led coalition in the war in Yemen. After reviewing the overwhelming evidence, it is clear that the Saudi-led coalition’s actions in Yemen are no longer something we, the leader of the free world, can support. Approximately 85,000 children have died from starvation and malnutrition as a direct result from this war. It’s completely horrific and inhumane. These children’s’ deaths were avoidable and we cannot turn a blind eye to these human rights atrocities. This resolution passed with bipartisan support and sends a clear message to Saudi Arabia that the United States will no longer tolerate their disregard for human life."
