Manchin Welcomes New Beckley VAMC Director, Discusses COVID-19 Pandemic And Quality Of Care For West Virginia Veterans
Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) spoke with Desmond McMullan, the newly appointed Director of the Beckley Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) about COVID-19 testing at the VAMC, preparing for a surge in cases, protecting VAMC employees, and the ongoing investigation into Veteran sexual assaults at the VAMC.
“Today I spoke with the Director Desmond McMullan, the new Director of the Beckley VAMC. Director McMullan has the experience and knowledge to lead the Beckley VAMC on the right path. Director McMullan and I spoke about testing patients and employees to provide as much security as possible during the COVID-19 pandemic as well as preparations in case the Beckley VAMC were to have a surge in COVID-19 cases. Director McMullan is dedicated to ensuring everyone at the facility is taken care of during this crisis. We also discussed the ongoing investigation into the sexual assault allegations against a former Beckley VAMC doctor from multiple Veterans. Director McMullan is working to make sure our Veterans never have to experience something so terrible at the Beckley VAMC ever again.
