Manchin Welcomes Secretary Perry to West Virginia

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) joined members of the West Virginia delegation in welcoming U.S. Secretary of Energy Rick Perry to West Virginia. They toured the Longview Power Plant in Maidsville and the National Energy Technology Laboratory in Morgantown.

“I was thrilled to show my good friend Secretary Perry around my great state of West Virginia and show him all we have to offer,” Senator Manchin said. “Longview Power Plant and the National Energy Technology Laboratory demonstrate our state’s potential for advancing our country’s energy infrastructure for decades to come. But we can only harness these opportunities if we continue to work with the Department of Energy. We must continue to ensure our research and development hubs in the state have the support and funding they need to bring their ideas to reality. As former Governors of energy states like West Virginia and Texas, we know the challenges facing our economies and unique ways to reach our full potential. I know that Secretary Perry will work with us to help seize upon our state’s energy opportunities, whether it be through pushing advanced coal technologies or cultivating innovative infrastructure systems for natural gas and natural gas liquids.”

Last month, Senator Manchin thanked U.S. Department of Energy Secretary Perry for accepting his invitation to visit West Virginia and also asked him about the Department of Energy grid study on reliability and resiliency.  Senator Manchin has also requested additional information on budget proposals regarding the loan guarantee program and the consolidation of NETL as proposed by the budget.
