Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) will finish his weeklong “Our Values, Our Priorities” tour with visits to some of West Virginia’s outstanding research facilities and businesses, highlighting their tremendous job creation potential.

“Continuing to attract top-notch laboratories and businesses to West Virginia with the potential to create jobs is one of my highest priorities, and it’s just common sense that we would work together to continue bringing strong companies to our state,” Senator Manchin said. “West Virginia is already home to some truly remarkable facilities doing groundbreaking research that is critical to America’s future. Our laboratories and businesses – from Protea to Key Logic to NETL – are producing the technologies that will keep America competitive and strong. We need to work with these facilities to produce a strong workforce, equipped with the training to work in highly-skilled positions.”

Manchin will begin the day with a visit to Protea Biosciences, where he will speak to employees and participate in a major announcement on groundbreaking bioanalytics technology that the Morgantown laboratory has produced. He will then visit the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL), which is responsible for the research that has unlocked the Marcellus Shale for development, creating the potential for enormous job growth in the region.

Senator Manchin will also visit the National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium at West Virginia University, where he will see a Chevy Volt and observe how a natural gas vehicle is injected with fuel. He will end the day at Key Logic, which provides IT solutions and management consulting, and is headquartered in Morgantown.
