***PRESS AVAILABILITY AT 10:15 a.m.***

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), a member of the Senate Special Committee on Aging, will announce today that he will introduce federal legislation to improve seniors’ quality of life as part of “Our Values, Our Priorities” Week. He will debut the measure, which he first enacted successfully as governor of West Virginia, following a roundtable with seniors in Charleston.

“When I think about what this country values, keeping our promises to our seniors is one of our highest values,” Senator Manchin said. “We are facing challenging budget decisions, and this week I am talking to West Virginians about what matters to them. But one thing needs to be clear: as we talk about our priorities in the budget negotiations, seniors need to be at the top of the list – even in tough times.”

In light of the ongoing budget negotiations in Washington, Senator Manchin is traveling the state this week and highlighting a different value or priority each day: creating jobs, strengthening our families, protecting our seniors, growing small businesses and achieving energy independence. Today’s focus will be on caring for America’s seniors. Following the roundtable and bill introduction, Senator Manchin will visit the Boone County Senior Center.

Senator Manchin will also make stops in Logan County today.

As negotiations on the budget continue in Washington, Senator Manchin strongly believes this country’s elected leaders need to face the financial challenges facing this country head-on. Senator Manchin is eager to hear from West Virginians about their priorities and values for this country’s future.

Highlights and themes for the week include:
