Manchin, Capito Announce $2.6 Million For Cancer Prevention In West Virginia
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $2,691,530 for the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The funding will support cancer prevention and control initiatives around the state of West Virginia.
“Far too many West Virginians have lost loved ones to cancer. While cancer treatments have made major advancements in recent decades, it is critically important that we continue investing in research and prevention efforts so fewer people have to struggle through treatment. I’m proud to be a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and to direct funds like this to West Virginia so that our medical community is front lines of preventing cancer,” said Senator Manchin.
“Unfortunately, it seems everyone has a cancer story — a parent, sibling, or friend who has been affected,” said Senator Capito. “Cancer has sadly touched thousands of West Virginia families, but we never stop fighting. Prevention and control are critical to keeping our state healthy and our families whole. I’m glad to see this funding come to West Virginia to help us continue that fight.”
