Manchin and Capito Announce Nearly $615,000 for Safety Improvements at Grant County Airport
Washington D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) announced $614,582 in federal funding for improvements at Grant County Airport in Petersburg. The funding will be used to upgrade the runway lighting system to ensure the safety of operations during low visibility conditions.
“As a pilot myself and as Co-Chairman of the General Aviation Caucus in the Senate, I understand the importance of investing in our airport infrastructure,” Senator Manchin said. “The improvements that will be made with this funding are critical to the safety of our pilots, passengers and all those in the community who benefit from the services provided by the Grant County Airport. This project will help prevent avoidable accidents and injuries while also laying the foundation for economic growth in the region.”
“Addressing our country's crumbling infrastructure is an area that can bridge the partisan divide and further economic growth,” said Senator Capito. “West Virginians rely on our airports and other transportation systems to access hard to reach areas in the state and to transport necessary goods and services. The repairs at Grant County Airport made possible through this grant will enhance safety for West Virginians and visitors traveling to and from the Mountain State.”
The funding was awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
