Manchin Announces $4.3 Million To Strengthen West Virginia Public Health, Maternal Services

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (I-WV), member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $4,326,872 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR), West Virginia University (WVU), and the Nicholas Intervention Coalition. The funding will strengthen local health department infrastructure, support maternal and child health services, and bolster substance use disorder prevention programs.

“It is vital that all West Virginians have access to quality healthcare services,” said Senator Manchin. “I am pleased that HHS is investing more than $4.3 million to bolster public health across our great state, including maternal and child health services and substance use disorder prevention programs. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to advocate for resources that enhance the health and well-being of all West Virginians.”

Individual Awards listed below:

  • $2,398,129 – West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, Charleston
    • This funding will support strengthening public health infrastructure statewide.
  • $1,575,743 – West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, Charleston
    • This funding will support maternal and child health services.
  • $228,000 – West Virginia University, Morgantown
    • This funding will support research into the leveraging of COVID-19 insights into multi-task machine learning frameworks for targeted public health interventions in rural America.
  • $125,000 – Nicholas Intervention Coalition, Summersville
    • This funding will support the Drug-Free Communities program.
