Manchin Announces Communications Director’s Departure
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) announced that Communications Director Emily Bittner is departing to join the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee as national press secretary and senior communications advisor.
“With Emily leaving our office, I’m sad and proud at the same time. Any time a key member of our staff has an opportunity, you’re proud that others see their value – but sad that they’re leaving the nest,” Senator Manchin said. “Emily has done great work serving the people of West Virginia, and she’s been especially effective in helping me deliver my commonsense message in Washington.”
“I’ll always have a special place in my heart for the people of West Virginia, and I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with a leader like Senator Manchin,” said Bittner, who lived in West Virginia during her childhood. “When you work for Senator Manchin, you don’t just show up and punch a clock – you’re part of his family. His genuine love for his team, the people of West Virginia and this country are inspiring, and his willingness to solve our problems is most welcome.”
Emily’s last day is Jan. 14. In the interim after her departure, Deputy State Director Sara Payne Scarbro and Press Secretary Katie Longo will be handling press inquiries. To reach the press office, please call the press line at (202) 228-1810 or email press@manchin.senate.gov.
