Manchin Announces Nearly $550k To Support Behavioral Health, Substance Use Disorder Prevention Programs

Charleston, WV – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (I-WV), member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $549,991 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for The Martinsburg Initiative and West Virginia Game Changers. The funding will support programs to educate and prevent youth substance use, as well as provide behavioral health and support services for children who have lived through adverse experiences related to the drug epidemic.

“West Virginia’s young people are our future, we must prioritize programs that support and protect them,” said Senator Manchin. “This investment from HHS will bolster ongoing initiatives that provide behavioral health support and education services around the dangers of substance use. It will also provide needed support to children who have been harmed by the drug epidemic. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue to advocate for resources that enhance the health and well-being of West Virginians across the Mountain State.”

Individual Awards listed below:

  • $499,991 – The Martinsburg Initiative, Martinsburg
    • This funding will support a program to provide behavioral health and support services to address adverse childhood experiences.
  • $50,000 – West Virginia Game Changers, Fairmont
    • This funding will support a substance use disorder prevention education program for youth.
