Manchin Announces Over $24K For Preserving The History Of West Virginia State University

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), Ranking Member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee (ENR) and member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced $24,841 for West Virginia State University (WVSU), a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) from the National Park Service (NPS). The funding comes from the National Park Service’s Underrepresented Community program, which will help conduct a survey and inventory of historically underrepresented properties for the National Register of Historic Properties.

“I am glad to see the National Park Service is working to recognize the great history of West Virginia State University. We as West Virginians know the interesting national history that has happened in our state,” said Senator Manchin. Understanding our history and heritage is so important because it teaches us about the key lessons and achievements from the generations before us. I applaud the National Park Service for putting a spotlight on the history of West Virginia State University and know that this partnership will help preserve the legacy of West Virginia State University.”
