Manchin, Capito Announce $600,000 for WVU Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Research

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) announced today that West Virginia University (WVU) will receive a $600,000 grant to fund Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) Research. WVU’s researchers will work to design a SOFC compatible with hydrocarbon use, while evaluating coatings aimed at reaching 50 percent or greater power density using hydrocarbon fuel. 

“In West Virginia, we understand the importance of innovation and research and continue to do all we can to invest in these projects. Our state is full of bright, bold thinkers and this funding will enable more students and faculty at WVU to participate in research and find energy solutions for the future,” said Senator Manchin.

“Finding ways to utilize fossil energy more innovatively and efficiently, while also reducing emissions, is critical,” Senator Capito said. “I have witnessed the good work being conducted at our colleges and universities to achieve this goal and understand the importance of investing in this area. That is why I am glad to see this funding headed to our own West Virginia University so researchers can continue to receive the support necessary to advance these important findings.”
