Manchin Releases Statement on the 40th Anniversary of Willow Island Disaster

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) issued the following statement on the 40th anniversary of the Willow Island Disaster.

“Forty years after this horrible tragedy, we continue to grieve, remember the 51 workers we lost, and pray for their families. The tragedy at the Pleasants Power Station will live forever in our hearts, and I encourage every West Virginian to honor the memory of those who lost their lives that fateful day.

“No matter what, one thing that stays the same here in our home state is the unshakable bond between our communities. That is one of the countless things that make West Virginia so special, and the strength of our citizens has been an inspiration to the entire nation. Together, we can take comfort in the fact that the resiliency of our people and the bonds between our communities have always, and will always remain West Virginia strong.”
