Manchin: Shale Gas Development Hearing an Important Opportunity for West Virginia

Praises Senator Rockefeller’s work focusing on infrastructure needs related to Marcellus

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) today praised his colleague Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) for bringing much-needed attention to the infrastructure impacts on Marcellus Shale development and drilling at a Senate Commerce Committee field hearing in Fairmont.

“We all have to come together in order to take advantage of the game-changing potential of the Marcellus Shale, produce more American energy and create good jobs,” Senator Manchin said. “I am so glad that Senator Rockefeller called this hearing of the Senate Commerce Committee today to focus on some of the infrastructure issues related to Marcellus Shale development, and as a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, I know we will continue our joint efforts on this issue.”

Senator Manchin also held a field hearing of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee on November 14, 2011 on Marcellus Shale development and production. The hearing, held in Charleston, focused on Marcellus’ tremendous job creation possibilities, potential challenges, and how the states can best take the lead on development.
