Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) will today participate in a roundtable discussion on the impact of federal government policies and regulations on the Appalachian coal industry.
The event is part of Senator Manchin’s “Fighting for Every Job” tour, during which he is highlighting the connection between jobs and energy independence, his agenda to help small businesses succeed, how to revitalize American manufacturing, the importance of training the workforce through higher education, and his growing effort to hire unemployed veterans.
“This country needs a true, all-of-the-above approach to our energy policy, but instead we are seeing the EPA fully engaged on a war on coal despite this Administration’s own projections that we’ll continue to rely on coal as an affordable source of energy for decades to come,” Senator Manchin said. “Rather than trying to shut down the coal industry -- killing countless jobs, creating great uncertainty as well as instability in the price of energy – we need the EPA and this Administration to work with us as a partner to determine how we can best strike a balance between jobs, our economy, and the environment. That is the balance I have been seeking since I arrived in the U.S. Senate, and that I will continue to fight for every single day.”
Later today, Senator Manchin will hold a “Coffee and Common Sense” event in Beckley. This week he will also hold a “Coffee and Common Sense” event in Ravenswood to have a conversation with residents about their commonsense ideas, concerns and priorities. He will visit businesses in Wood County and play in the Kenneth “Honey” Rubenstein Charity Basketball Event in Davis.
