Manchin Statement on D.C. Court of Appeals Decision to Suspend Clean Power Plan

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) today issued a statement after the D.C. Court of Appeals granted President Trump’s request to suspend the Clean Power Plan lawsuit.

“I applaud the D.C. Court of Appeals for recognizing that these regulations are simply unlawful. This ruling against the Clean Power Plan is an important step to prevent further job losses, increases in consumers’ utility rates, and more damage to our economy. Today, coal makes up 30% of our electric portfolio and it will serve our nation for decades to come.

“This ruling will allow us to work with the Environmental Protection Agency to find common sense solutions and achieve a balance between the environment and the economy.  We all want clean air and clean water.   That’s why I look forward to finding answers to our energy challenges that will create jobs, utilize all energy sources, and develop clean energy technology that we can develop right here in West Virginia.”
