Manchin Statement On Death Of Legendary Fairmont State Basketball Coach Joe Retton

Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) released the following statement following the passing of legendary Fairmont State basketball coach Joe Retton.

“Coach Jo-Jo Retton was a fierce competitor. He never let me forget the time Farmington beat Barracksville in basketball. But I learned more from Coach Retton about character and what it means to be a person of responsibility than I ever did about basketball. He was a mentor throughout my life and a fierce advocate for those less fortunate. This is a huge loss to Marion County and to the state of West Virginia. Gayle and I join the entire state in praying for Retton family as they mourn the loss of this incredible man.”
