Manchin Statement on Killing of American Troops in Afghanistan

Washington, D.C. – United States Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) today made the following statement regarding the senseless killings of four American troops in Afghanistan.

“I am terribly saddened by the tragic deaths of four American servicemembers who were murdered presumably by Afghan soldiers in recent days. These horrifying events serve as yet another reminder of what I have said and will continue to say: it’s time to stop pouring billions of dollars into rebuilding Afghanistan and to instead focus on rebuilding America,” Senator Manchin said. “We have no business carrying out a mission of nation building in that country and trying to change their culture. What we should be fighting is a focused war on terror, and make no mistake, we will fight terror wherever it may be. If we leave Afghanistan and al Qaeda and the terrorists rear their ugly heads again, we’ll come right back with a vengeance and with a very special target: the war on terror.”
