Manchin Statement on Passing of Bishop Bernard Schmitt

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Joe Manchin today released the following statement about the passing of Bishop Bernard Schmitt. 

“Gayle and I want to express our deepest sympathy to the family and loved ones of Bishop Bernard Schmitt, a man I considered a dear friend,” Senator Manchin said. “His loss is mourned not only by the Catholic community, but by the entire state of West Virginia. Bishop Schmitt was one of the most compassionate leaders I have ever known, and has been a trusted listener and adviser throughout my life. I am so thankful for his service and I know he will be greatly missed.”
