Manchin Statement on Senate Vote on Ryan Budget Proposal

Washington, D.C. -- U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) today voted against the draconian Ryan budget proposal. The measure failed 40-57.

Senator Manchin released the following statement:

“I voted against the draconian Ryan budget for the simple reason that it doesn’t honor our values as Americans, keep our promises to seniors or protect our priorities as West Virginians,” Senator Manchin said. “I strongly believe we must get our fiscal house in order and protect our seniors, but we will never accomplish this critical goal with partisan proposals, none of which make common sense and all of which are unrealistic and are destined to fail as soon as they arrive. The truth is, the American people are demanding that we work together to solve this problem, and I am committed to doing just that."
