Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) will launch a weeklong statewide tour focused on “Our Values, Our Priorities,” starting with an event on Monday to celebrate the elevation of the National Guard to a position on the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Senator Manchin, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, strongly advocated for the well-deserved honor and responsibility for the Guard, and he will spend Monday touring renowned National Guard facilities in the state.
“The West Virginia National Guard is the finest in this country – and I truly believe the Guard will continue to be a tremendous factor in rebuilding America and making this country strong,” Senator Manchin said. “Not only that, the Guard has a vital role to play in accomplishing one of our greatest priorities: running our government more efficiently and putting our fiscal house in order. As we reduce our nation’s debt and deficits, the Guard has proven that they can help our military operate more efficiently instead of relying on overpriced contractors. I am so proud of their unique skills and capabilities, and of their contributions to this nation, and I know that they will continue their excellent work and help put our fiscal house back in order.”
Senator Manchin will continue the work week with events focused on “Our Values, Our Priorities,” including recognizing West Virginia’s strong businesses, creating jobs, retraining the unemployed for good-paying jobs, educating our children, strengthening our aging network and keeping our promises to seniors.
